Conferences
Each year, the Global Youth Alliance hosts a three-day, virtual, youth-led summit in the spring that combines historical reflection, global issue analysis, and collaborative solution-making. Aligned with the seasonal theme, these conferences provide an open space for youth to explore pressing current affairs and their historical roots. Through real-time discussion, participants develop communication and critical thinking skills. They offer a platform for youth to share their perspectives and articulate their vision for a more just and equitable future.
Key Elements
The Youth Framework
The Youth Framework is the culminating product of the conference. It synthesizes committee discussions and incorporates the insights from Committee Reports. In essence, it outlines the key prominent issues youth identify related to the overarching theme and the steps they believe should be taken to change the status quo and address global problems. It serves as a concrete foundation that amplifies youth perspectives. The Youth Framework will be published in the Global Youth Alliance’s Spring Issues.
Preparation
To ensure a productive conference, all participants are expected to come prepared. Prior to the conference, a participation form will be made available. Please complete this form and select the committee you wish to join. After submitting the form, participants are encouraged to research their committee’s topic and draft a minimum of three concrete recommendations moving forward. Committees
Global Youth Alliance seasonal themes are intentionally broad to encourage diverse perspectives. Each conference will feature 3-5 committees, each focusing on a specific aspect of the overarching theme (e.g., environment, digital citizenship, war). Committee topics may vary each year based on current affairs and relevance. Each committee will have a more focused topic to guide pre-conference research and productive dialogue.
Online
The conference will be held entirely online. It is therefore essential that all participants engage respectfully during discussions. The conference sessions will be recorded, and participants are required to keep their cameras on at all times (excluding breaks). Any offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate language is strictly prohibited.
Moderators
Each committee will be facilitated by one or two moderators. Their primary role is to guide productive discussion and ensure respectful conversation. Moderators will also take notes and compile the Committee Report with the participants, which will be presented during the plenary session and incorporated into The Youth Framework.
